The Pajama Diaries is a humorous, art-imitating-life daily and Sunday comic strip. It centers on Jill Kaplan, an independent and introspective suburban mother, as she balances her career as a freelance graphic designer and family life with her husband Rob and their two young daughters, Amy and Jess.
A relatable protagonist, Jill narrates her daily adventures in a journal format. The strip provides readers with an intimate and candid view of modern marriage, work, and motherhood. Readers relate to Jill’s inner dialog and contemporary struggle to be all things to all people.
Terri Libenson is the cartoonist of the nationally syndicated comic strip, The Pajama Diaries. She is also a long-time humorous card writer for American Greetings Corp. She has written for AmericanGreetings.com, Egreetings.com, and BlueMountainArts.com as well.
Terri graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 1992 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in illustration. She developed her first professional comic strip, Got a Life, in 2000, which was distributed by King Features Weekly service. The Pajama Diaries was launched with King in 2006 and currently runs in newspapers throughout the country and abroad.
Born and raised in northeast Pennsylvania, Terri lives with her husband and two daughters in Cleveland, Ohio.
Independent and introspective, this mom and freelance graphic designer balances work, family, and everything in between. Maintaining her own identity is important to Jill, so she records her thoughts in a day-by-day account. Memories, gossip, and even marital intimacy are all revealed in Jill's blog.
Jill’s husband, a quiet, laid-back logical thinker. In other words, the antithesis to Jill. An I.T. guy, he’s there to lend Jill support, both emotional and technical. His only downfall is his persistent need for relations with his worn-out wife. What’s up with that?
Jill and Rob’s two rambunctious daughters who age in real time. Amy, as a preteen asserting her independence, tries to prove she’s in command of the household.
Jess when not fighting with her sister acts as her wing-girl.
Rob's old-fashioned grandmother who enjoys reminding Jill about the virtues of being the ideal homemaker.
Jill’s friends who represent different facets of motherhood. Nanci is an assertive and ambitious single mom of twins who is engaged to an older man.
Lisa is a good-natured – yet frequently overwhelmed – stay-at-home mother of three whose husband travels for his job. Currently, Lisa is going back to school for a teaching degree
The Kaplans’ neighbors who live across the street. An updated version of the 1950's nuclear family (think June Cleaver with a cell phone), Jill often tries to emulate their lifestyle. In the strip, the wife and kids are rarely seen, but never the husband.
Amys beat-up stuffed elephant who tags along everywhere.
